Lightweight shoes - materials & processing

Shoes from legero are particularly light. This is due to the materials used and our innovative manufacturing technologies. We also subject every shoe to our legero lightness test: Only when a shoe is lighter than its counterpart from other major shoe manufacturers is it ready for the market.

Our goal is to bring lightness into the lives of our customers.

That accounts for the incomparably light "legero feeling“ that legero customers experience with every step. Which is how, every day, they stand with ease at every opportunity in life.

Why exactly are legero shoes so light?

From leather to the textiles: lightness starts with the materials. And goes further with technology. The lighter and more flexible the materials, the more elaborate and challenging the production. Our aspiration is to use only the lightest materials - and thereby produce the highest quality.

Whether leather or textile, only light materials make it into our shoes

In addition to quality and sustainable sourcing, we pay particular attention to the strength of the leather. For both our summer and winter models, we only use very thin leathers, which, at the most, have a thickness defined in millimetres, according to the season.

Lightness, component by component

We also use only very soft, light and flexible materials for our inner linings. And where textiles are used, we also pay attention to the initial weight of the material. This applies not only to the base material, but also to all other materials used. After all, every single component must meet our demands for sustainability and lightness.

The soles — the key in lightweights

We also use only very soft, light and flexible materials for our inner linings. And where textiles are used, we also pay attention to the initial weight of the material. This applies not only to the base material, but also to all other materials used. After all, every single component must meet our demands for sustainability and lightness.

  • The insole, i.e. the layer of the shoe bottom facing the foot, which is also called the inner sole.
  • And the outsole, i.e. the layer facing the ground.

Technology makes the difference

Our insoles are particularly thin and soft. In addition, we get by with one seam to close the upper - strobing in technical jargon. Two aspects that ensure lightness and flexibility in our shoes. Other manufacturers need 2 to 3 layers of glue and an insole to close and sole the shoe. Each layer makes the shoe harder and stiffer.

Lightness meets sustainability

We also connect our two-component soles to the upper without any further work steps or materials. A technology that, in addition to lightness, also meets our aspiration for sustainability. After all, it ensures accurate planning, flexibility and less waste. In addition, we only use as much sole material as necessary in our constructions. This not only saves material but also weight.

Lightness without compromise

Naturally, all that, without any loss of quality. Despite our soft and thin soles, feet are optimally protected and a perfect grip is guaranteed. Plus, all our soles are subjected to various quality tests - for example, with regard to slip resistance.

Lightweight shoes have many advantages

It's not without reason that the trend is towards soft, lightweight shoes. Lightweight shoes support their wearer with every step, but shouldn’t restrict her. Light shoes let the feet feel the ground. As a result, the feet and the body as a whole don’t tire as quickly.

When selecting materials, apart from lightness, softness and flexibility, special attention is also paid to heel height. That's why our collections consist almost exclusively of shoes with flat heels. For good reason: flat heels provide a natural walking sensation and let the eyes and muscles "work" in a natural way.

Light shoes, healthy backs

Regardless of lightness, the sole material we use has particularly good cushioning properties. Combined with the soft materials, this supports a natural rolling of the foot, which in turn has a positive influence on back health. Just like breathable, soft materials, a good fit, enough space in the toe area and good heel support.

Will shoes from legero become even lighter in the future?

In development, this is our daily challenge. Because after the new collection is before the new collection. With this in mind, we think about how a shoe could be even lighter based on the current model.

We love what we do

We interpret current trends into our legero design language and pay attention to the lowest possible weight. But we also regularly take a close look at our current collections and check them with regard to reducing weight. In this way, the target weight from the previous season can possibly be undercut again in the next season.
